Varsity Wrestling: State Duals Runner-Up

Mount Pisgah Christian School's Varsity Wrestling team is the runner-up in the 2024 Dual State Championship. This is the fifth year in a row that Mount Pisgah Wrestling advanced to the State Dual Semi-Finals.

After capturing their fifth straight Area Dual Championship, the Mount Pisgah Varsity Wrestling advanced on to the State Dual Championship hosted in Heard County this past weekend.

Based on last year’s performance, the team was seeded as the number one overall seed. However, they faced a tough road ahead to reach the finals for the second straight year.

In round one, Mount Pisgah cruised past Charlton County 65-15. They moved on to the quarterfinals, facing a tough Oglethorpe and won 41-33.

In the semi-finals match, the team faced a rematch of last year's Dual State Championship Finals against Trion in a highly competitive match up. The match came down to senior Josh Lange, who needed to win for the tie or pin for the win. Ultimately he pinned a two-time returning state placer to secure the 42-39 victory for the team.

The team advanced to the finals to face one of Georgia's top overall teams, Social Circle. Despite junior Conner Doherty defeating a two-time state champ and senior Marley Washington winning with ease, the team came up short of their goal of winning back-to-back Dual State Championships.

Next up, the team is set to compete in Area Individuals, where they hope to crown numerous individual state championships.

The Area Individual Meet will be hosted at the Drum on February 3.
