STAR Student and Teacher

Congratulations to this year’s STAR Student, Rory Willis, and STAR teacher, Mr. Nathan Goodroe!

Willis earned this recognition due to her academic achievement and performance on the SAT and selected Mr. Goodroe as the most influential teacher in her academic career. 

To qualify for the STAR nomination, seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

Mr. Goodroe says, “Rory is a great student. She has a professional level of dedication and humility. She is bright, a leader, and understands if things will work and not.”

Rory also is committed to serving her fellow students as a member of the Upper School Fresh Air Team and by  volunteering to run audio and video production at school events. “She has been instrumental in the past two years in keeping our Fresh Air (chapel) times running by essentially keeping track of everything behind the scenes — the things the other students don't see, but if she wasn't there we would have to change how we structure the team,” says Goodroe. “She is a keystone and she does a role that doesn't get half of the credit she deserves.”

The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is sponsored, administered and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and the PAGE Foundation. Since its creation by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce in 1958, the STAR program has honored nearly 27,000 students.

 

STAR begins each year in participating Georgia high schools when the STAR Student is named and chooses a STAR Teacher to share in this recognition. The students and their teachers are honored by their schools and receive special recognition in their communities from one of the more than 170 statewide civic organizations and businesses that serve as local sponsors of the STAR program.
