Music in Our Schools Month

The National Association for Music Education has designated March as Music in Our Schools Month. Throughout the month of March, members of the Tri-M National Music Honor Society have been highlighting the importance of music in our school community through various projects and performances—including celebrating music throughout our hallways.

• There are currently 181 Middle and Upper School students enrolled in music classes at Mount Pisgah.
• 44 students are taking private music lessons through Mount Pisgah Arts Academy.
• This year alone, students from Mount Pisgah have or will perform with Georgia All-State Orchestra, All-National Honor Mixed Chorus, GMEA District Five Honor Ensembles, the Augusta Symphony, and Carnegie Hall. 
• There are currently 20 members of Mount Pisgah's Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter.
• Students who participate in music groups score significantly higher than their peers on measures of social capital including talking more with parents and teachers. Broh, B. A. (2002). • The combined results of 30 studies indicate that music instruction is linked to significantly improved reading skills. Standley, J. M.  (2008).  Does music instruction help children learn to read?  Evidence of a meta-analysis.  Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, 27(1), 17-32.
• An analysis of data from the National Educational Longitudinal Study of 1988 demonstrated a significant correlation between participation in school music groups and achievement in math and English. Broh, B.
