Mount Pisgah Students Awarded Atlanta Students of the Year Runners-Up

Congratulations to MPCS 9th graders Avery Shultz and Sarah Beth Raley, who led the team that was named Runner-Up in The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's 2022 Atlanta Students of the Year program; their team of 10 girls, including Mount Pisgah students Ella Gaeta (9th), Karly Greene (12th) and Sophia Rhoades (11th), raised more than $210,000 in just 7 weeks.

Students of the Year is a philanthropic competition for high school leaders seeking to make an impact in the fight against cancer. The title is awarded to the candidate or co-candidates in each community who raise the most funds during the competition.

Students foster professional skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing, and project management in order to raise funds for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the world's largest non-profit fighting blood cancer. The team hosted 6 corporate sponsorship meetings with UBS, Shaw Industries, Nolan Transportation Group, Data Media Associates, and Croft and Bender. There were 34 teams competing from all over Metro Atlanta.

From Sarah Beth Raley:
“It was an honor to represent Mount Pisgah in the Atlanta Students of the Year campaign. My goal throughout the competition was to help our team bring the world one step closer to a cure for cancer. Together, with my amazing teammates, the funds we raised help The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society provide research, life-saving treatments and support to cancer patients and their families. Thank you to everyone who supported this worthwhile cause. We are so proud to make a difference in the lives of others.”

From Avery Shultz:
“The Students of the Year experience was more than I ever expected, and I’m so excited that we were able to represent our school so well! We were fighting for our team’s honored hero Liam Mertz, and in honor of our teammate’s brother Owen Fox, who lost his battle to Leukemia in 2014. Our team was so amazing, and I hope that we will be the generation that sees an end to cancer! We learned so much from all of our corporate presentations and are happy to be a part of the leadership team for Students of the Year 2023!”
