STUDENTS HONOR VETERANS THROUGH COMMUNITY ART

Poppy Project brings rememberance to life at Newtown Park

OptimizedImage,,,OptimizedTaking learning and expression from the classroom to our community, Upper School ceramics students had the honor of creating and installing the Mount Pisgah Christian School Poppy Project as a stunning tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s servicemen and servicewomen.

Under the guidance of their teachers, students spent the afternoon assembling handmade ceramic poppies at Newtown Park, where they were featured as part of the City of Johns Creek Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11. Each student took immense pride in seeing their work come together in such a meaningful display, knowing it would stand alongside the community’s tribute to those who have served our country.

The Story Behind the Poppies

In class, students explored how the poppy became a powerful symbol of remembrance. They read In Flanders Fields by John McCrae, discussed the contrast between beauty and loss, and reflected on how these small flowers came to represent both the cost and courage of service.

They also studied the Tower of London Remembers installation, first unveiled in 2014 and returning in 2025, which included more than 800,000 ceramic poppies representing lives lost in World War I. Inspired by that breathtaking display, each student created three poppies of their own to share with our community in honor of Veterans Day.

A Community Effort

The Mount Pisgah Christian School Fine Arts department is grateful to Mayor BradberryMs. Sutton with the City of Johns Creek, and Mr. Keith BoglePresident of the Johns Creek Veterans Association, for partnering with us on this project and beautifully displaying our students’ work at Newtown Park.

Mr. Bogle was pleased with the collaboration between the community and school.  He said, "It was a great addition to our effort to honor veterans," adding that he hopes MPCS will participate again next year.

To all veterans and active service members in our community here at Mount Pisgah, and in the neighboring area, we thank you. Your courage, sacrifice, and love of country inspire our students to lead with faith and purpose.
