Announcing MPCS Head of School: Dr. Chris Harmon

MPCS Board of Trustees
Dear Mount Pisgah Christian School community,

After an extensive, nationwide search, the Board of Trustees is excited to introduce Dr. Chris Harmon as the next Head of School at Mount Pisgah Christian School. Dr. Harmon is an experienced leader in Christian education who is well-equipped to position the school for long-term success. God’s hand has been evident at each stage of the search process, and we are encouraged to see what He will do in the coming years as we build on Mount Pisgah’s commitment to our Christian mission and excellence in academics, fine arts, and athletics.

Dr. Harmon has served as a Head of School at three Christian schools over the past 20 years and is currently at Savannah Christian Preparatory School. Before his tenure at SCPS, he served as Head of School at Legacy Christian Academy in Texas and Merritt Island Christian School in Florida.

“I can think of no one who is better prepared and suited to fill the role of Head of School at Mount Pisgah than my 15-year friend and professional colleague, Dr. Chris Harmon,” said Dr. David Tilley, MPCS Interim Head of School. “He has served successfully in this role at three Christian schools over 20 years and is a God-honoring leader who possesses the intellectual acumen, skills, and style that is needed to take MPCS to the next level. I am confident you will greatly enjoy the leadership of Dr. Harmon and the partnership of his equally talented wife, Melanie.”

As a board member of the Council for Educational Standards and Accountability (CESA), Dr. Harmon is also one of only eight heads of school nationally with Head of School Certification from CESA. As an instructor in the Gordon College (MA) Graduate Leadership program, he has taught educational leaders from across the country in his course on business, finance, and operations.

“My family and I look forward to joining the Mount Pisgah community. From our first steps on campus, we were able to see and hear the passion everybody has for the school,” said Dr. Harmon. “The strong reputation of the school, faithfulness to the Christian mission, and the enthusiasm of the school community is the foundation for an exciting future. I am humbled by the selection to lead the school and look forward to meeting the students, families, and staff as we work together to advance and strengthen Mount Pisgah for God’s glory.”

Chris’s wife Melanie is an award-winning science teacher and has led the development of three educational science programs. She was recently recognized as a 2019 Independent School Master Teacher for the state of Georgia. Chris and Melanie have two children, Christopher and Hannah. Christopher graduated from Samford University in the spring of 2021 and is now teaching fifth-grade science at Mount Paran Christian School. Hannah is a junior at University of Florida and is planning a career in non-profit public relations.

For the remainder of the school year, Dr. Harmon will work closely with Dr. Tilley and the school’s leadership team in preparation for his official start date of July 1, 2022. Over the next several months, we look forward to introducing you to him and his family as they begin transitioning to their home here at Mount Pisgah Christian School.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Harmon and his family to Mount Pisgah!

On Behalf of the Board of Trustees,

Joe Gaynor
