Who was the most influential teacher/coach/instructor when you were growing up? What was it about him/her that impacted you?
I went to a high school where student discussion was encouraged and expected in every class, which was difficult for me because I was so shy. All of my teachers were critical of my lack of class participation with the exception of one of my English teachers. He told my parents at curriculum night that I was a listener, and there was nothing wrong with that. His comment made me feel validated and increased my confidence. I will never forget him for that.
What is your fondest Mount Pisgah memory?
I have many, but one of my fondest memories was the opening night of “The Sound of Music”. It was the first time in the history of our school that we had produced a musical, and the performance was spectacular.
How do you reach students?
By accepting them for who they are, and encouraging them in what they are capable of achieving.
